A mother's wicked plan
Episode 14 A mother's wicked plan The Letter from Home One afternoon, after school, Nneka sat in her uncle’s living room, reading a book. Uncle Chike walked in with an envelope. "You have a letter from your father," he said, handing it to her. Nneka’s heart skipped. She missed Papa Ebere so much. She quickly opened the letter and read: "My dear daughter, I am so proud of you. I hear about your success, and it fills my heart with joy. But things at home are not good. Your mother is bitter, and Ada has become spoiled. She does nothing but complain. Still, I trust that one day, everything will change. Keep working hard. I miss you. Love, Papa." Tears welled in Nneka’s eyes. She wished she could see her father. She wished things at home were different. But she wiped her tears and told herself, I will make him proud. The next few months were even better for her. She kept winning awards in school. One day, a government official visited and heard about her story. He was so impressed that he promised to sponsor her university education abroad! It felt like a dream. But back in the village, Mama Ebere sat in front of the house, fuming. Everyone was talking about Nneka. Market women, neighbors, even Ada’s friends. "That your daughter, Nneka, is making waves in the city!" "She is becoming a great person!" "She will soon be richer than all of us!" Mama Ebere couldn’t take it anymore. One evening, she called Ada and said, "We are going to the city. I must see this girl with my own eyes."
