Episode 12 A mother's wicked plan A New Life Begins The next morning, Nneka packed her few belongings. Her hands were still shaking from last night’s incident. She couldn’t believe her own mother had tried to harm her. Papa Ebere was serious. "You are going to the city today," he told her. "I have spoken to my brother, your Uncle Chike. You will stay with him while you attend your new school." Nneka looked at him with teary eyes. "Papa, what about you?" Papa Ebere sighed. "I will visit you, my daughter. But you must go. Your future is bigger than this house." Mama Ebere and Ada stood at the door, watching. Ada folded her arms and smirked. "Finally, this bush girl is leaving." But Mama Ebere was silent. She had lost this battle. Before Nneka left, she turned to look at her mother one last time. "Mama, no matter what you have done to me, I still love you," she said softly. Mama Ebere didn’t respond. She just looked away. The journey to the city was long, but when Nneka arrived, her eyes widened. Tall buildings, big roads, bright lights—everything was different from the village. Uncle Chike welcomed her warmly. "You are safe here, my dear. Focus on your studies. The world is waiting for you." That night, as she lay on a soft bed in a quiet room, Nneka whispered to herself, "This is my chance. I will not fail." And so, her new life began.
