Episode 8 A mother's wicked plan A Ray of Hope Days passed, and Mama Ebere continued her wickedness. Every night, she gave Nneka so much work that she had no time to study. "You will fail next time," Mama Ebere smirked. Even Ada laughed. "Let’s see how you will be the best student again!" Nneka felt tired and frustrated, but she refused to give up. During lunch breaks at school, she borrowed books and read under a tree. At night, when everyone slept, she used moonlight to study outside. One day, the headmaster called her to the office. "Nneka, we have been watching you. You are a special child." She looked up, confused. "Sir?" "We have an opportunity for you," he continued. "There is a scholarship for the best students. If you win, you will go to one of the best schools in the city for free." Nneka’s heart skipped. "A scholarship?" "Yes," the headmaster smiled. "And I believe you can win it." Nneka felt hope rise in her chest. This was her chance! But at home, when Mama Ebere heard about it, she became angrier. "Over my dead body will that girl leave this house!" she swore. She was ready to do anything to stop Nneka.
