Episode 5 A mother's wicked plan A New Beginning The next morning, Nneka dressed in her new school uniform. It was a little big, but she didn’t care. She was going to school! Papa Ebere held her hand as they walked to the school gate. "Work hard, my daughter. Education is your key to a better life," he said. "Yes, Papa," Nneka nodded, determined. School was a new world for her. At first, she felt shy. She didn’t have fine shoes like the other children. She didn’t have lunch money like Ada, who was in the same school but refused to talk to her in public. "Don't come near me in school," Ada warned. "I don’t want people to know we are sisters." Nneka felt hurt, but she remembered her father’s words. She focused on her studies. Every day, she stayed back after class to read. She borrowed books from teachers. At home, Mama Ebere was still wicked. She refused to give Nneka food if Papa Ebere wasn’t around. "Go and drink water if you’re hungry," she would say. Nneka endured. She knew that one day, things would change. And then, something happened that made everyone start noticing her.
