Episode 3 A mother's wicked plan Thrown Out That night, after Papa Ebere went to bed, Mama Ebere dragged Nneka outside. The moon was bright, and the air was cold. "You will not sleep in my house tonight!" she hissed. Nneka’s eyes widened. "Mama, please! Where will I go?" Mama Ebere didn’t care. She pushed Nneka out and locked the door. Nneka stood outside, shivering. She knocked and begged, but nobody opened. Even Ada laughed from inside. "Good for you!" Ada mocked. Nneka sat on the floor, hugging herself. Tears ran down her face. She was just a child, but her mother hated her. Papa Ebere woke up in the middle of the night and noticed Nneka was missing. He searched the house. "Where is Nneka?" he asked. Mama Ebere turned her back. "She’s outside." Papa Ebere rushed to the door, unlocked it, and saw Nneka curled up on the ground. His heart broke. "Come inside, my daughter," he said, lifting her up. Mama Ebere frowned. "If you like, carry her on your head! She will still be useless!" But Papa Ebere had made a decision. He was going to change Nneka’s life.
